A beautifully preserved antique Victorian 18ct gold enamel winged heart, dated 1897 and crafted with the exquisite enamel workmanship synonymous with late-19th-century sentimental jewellery.
The centre features a vibrant blue guilloché enamel heart, framed by green and white champlevé enamel wings - a symbolic Victorian motif representing love in flight, emotional freedom, and heartfelt devotion. The reverse is engraved “F.G. 1897”, confirming its authentic period origin and private history.
Antique winged hearts are extremely collectable and appear only rarely on the market. Their symbolic meaning and scarcity make them especially sought after by serious collectors of Victorian sentimental jewellery.
This example tests as 18ct gold, with “18c” engraved on one wing, and is paired with an antique 9ct gold chain of the same era. The chain features baby fetter and oval links, stamped with “9C” on the tag and a partially legible “9C” on the bolt-ring clasp. Length: 16 inches. The winged heart itself measures 49 x 9mm, offering a beautifully proportioned presence.
In very good antique condition, with only the lightest enamel loss at the very bottom of the heart - not visible when worn.
A truly special and hard-to-find Victorian jewel combining artistry, sentiment, and exceptional collectability.
