This striking 18-carat yellow gold mourning ring, crafted in 1827, is a beautiful relic of Georgian history and sentimentality. Featuring intricate chased floral detailing throughout, incorporating the full length of the band as well as the shoulders and face, the ring showcases a slim black enamel outline around a central locket compartment that holds a piece of delicate pink silk or fabric (which may have once contained hair). The face of the ring is 11mm wide, providing impressive finger coverage, and it weighs a substantial 4.29 grams.
The ring bears full traditional London hallmarks, including the leopard's head, a date letter for 1827-1828, and a duty mark. An inscription inside the band reads: "In Memory of Sarah May, Ob 24 May 1827 at 20", memorialising a young life. This piece is in incredible museum-quality condition, with crisp, clear hallmarks, prominent chased details and no noticeable wear.
