A rare and luxurious writing instrument from the Belle Époque period, this exquisite French antique quill pen dates to circa 1890–1910 and is a true collector’s treasure. Crafted in vibrant 18ct yellow gold, the elegant 8.25-inch-long pen is adorned with a detachable 18ct rose gold serpent, coiled gracefully around its body. The snake features a rose-cut diamond head (the diamond approx. 2mm in diameter) with delicate age-related nibbles visible only under magnification—a charming nod to its history.
 
Stamped with a French eagle head hallmark near the nib, this piece exudes the magnificent craftsmanship of the era. The pen itself is in excellent condition with only minor nib tarnishing and a natural patina on the snake head, enhancing its authentic antique appeal. At the top of the pen, a single pearl adds an extra touch of refinement.
 
The gold snake slides off to be worn separately as a pendant—an ingenious dual-purpose design. For security, we recommend styling it with a chain wider than the gaps between the coils to prevent unravelling.
 
Housed in its original presentation box, stamped “APPAY – 24 Rue de la Paix PARIS”, the pen has strong ties to French luxury heritage. Appay was a renowned Parisian jeweller and maker of fine objets d’art during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, known for working with gold and precious stones.  Though the box lining is worn and the lid lining detached, it remains a charming historical accompaniment.
